Abstract This paper deals with the calculation of power spectral density of several family members of RLL modified duobinary codes, also known as VMDB codes.These codes can be thought of as substitution codes, as the strings composed of zeros with a length exceeding an even value m+1 are substituted by appropriate substitution patterns (SP's). This is the same problem as with high-density bipolar codes HDBn, with the additional challenge that these codes are also minimum bandwidth [5] and exhibit, besides bounded RDS, a bounded value of ADS. The calculation of p.s.d. of VMDB code was performed using the method of Petrovic and MATHEMATICA. Complete formulae describing the coding factor of VMDB codes, both as a function of the normalised frequency and probability p of a mark at the coder input were derived. |
